Czech Approbation Exam for Dentists: Information on the Recognition of Professional Practice

The Ministry of Health of the Czech Republic has published important information concerning dentists from countries outside the European Union, the European Economic Area and Switzerland who are in the process of completing the Czech Approbation Exam.

It is possible to apply for the recognition of authorised professional practice in the Czech Republic as the practical part of the Approbation Exam.

Who does this information apply to?

This option applies to dentists who have been authorised to carry out professional practice in the Czech Republic under Section 36(2)(a) of Act No. 95/2004 Coll.

This means professional practice that has been officially authorised by a decision of the Ministry of Health of the Czech Republic. The practice must be carried out in the Czech Republic under professional supervision and must meet the required conditions.

It is important to note that this does not refer to ordinary work experience or professional practice completed abroad.

What type of practice may be recognised?

For professional practice to be recognised as the practical part of the Approbation Exam, several conditions must be met.

First of all, it must be professional practice authorised by the Ministry of Health of the Czech Republic and must have lasted for at least 1 year.

In addition, the required professional procedures set out in the relevant educational programme must have been completed during this practice.

Another requirement is the preparation of 5 case studies.

What documents need to be submitted?

The application for the recognition of professional practice should include in particular:

  • confirmation from the healthcare service provider that the professional practice was completed for at least 1 year;
  • confirmation that the required professional procedures were completed;
  • 5 prepared case studies;
  • a completed application form;
  • payment of the administrative fee.

This option may be very important for dentists who have already completed authorised professional practice in the Czech Republic and are in the process of the Czech Approbation Exam.

If the required conditions are met, they may apply for this practice to be recognised as the practical part of the Approbation Exam.

This may significantly affect the process of recognition of their professional competence in the Czech Republic.

Dentists who may be affected by this situation are advised to check the decision issued to them by the Ministry of Health of the Czech Republic.

If the decision states that they have been authorised to carry out professional practice under Section 36(2)(a) of Act No. 95/2004 Coll., it is advisable to verify whether the other conditions for submitting an application for recognition of the practice have also been met.
