Important changes to the licensing (approbation) examination effective from 1 January 2026 (amendment to Decree No. 117/2018 Sb., on the examination rules of the licensing examination)
As of January 1, 2026, the amendment to Decree No. 117/2018 Sb. has come into effect, introducing several significant changes to the organization and structure of the licensing (approbation) examination.
1. Changes in the written part of the licensing examination
New passing threshold
To successfully complete the written test, candidates must now answer at least 60% of the questions correctly.
(Previously, the minimum requirement was 70%.)
Adjustment to the test on the healthcare system and basics of law
The test focusing on the Czech healthcare system and legal framework of healthcare services now includes:
  • 15 questions (previously 50),
  • test duration is 20 minutes.
This change applies only to this specific test.
➡ The professional knowledge test remains unchanged — its structure and duration stay the same.
2. Changes in the oral part of the examination
The amendment expands the group of persons allowed to be present during the oral part of the examination. The following may now be present:
  • doctors, dentists or pharmacists who provide direct professional supervision of the candidate during their practical training,
    or
  • doctors, dentists or pharmacists who hold a managerial position at a healthcare provider.
3. Organizational changes
All administrative tasks related to processing and sending invitations to the licensing examination are now handled by IPVZ.
4. Validity of previously obtained results
Results marked as “passed” / “failed,” received by candidates before the amendment took effect, remain fully valid.
